Full visualisation of another idea. Key points for design development I can take from this are clarification of the lacing system, the heel, final materials and colourways and full realisation of manufacture.
Part of my idea generation and development for my current project. Most of these ideas are based on a fusion of street and sport which emerges from research on lacrosse culture. The result is a bulky low top with suede quarter sections and a mesh upper underlay. I’m currently using tracing paper to finalise details of the design on the general form.
As part of my “lacrosse culture sneaker” project I’ve been researching shoes that fuse sporty and street elements which is a big part of my interpretation of lacrosse culture. Supra’s running shoes and the Nike Air Max 90 are two examples of shoes which blur the line, something I also intend to do.
I’m currently looking at this short course for pattern making in shoes. From networking in the industry and knowing many designers it does seem to be a general shortcoming that we are generally ignorant in understanding the manufacture of the product we are drawing. I really want to understand the processes more involved in shoe making and the best way to do that is probably to make them myself. I’m also learning to sew and cross-stitch as to make the course more beneficial in September! Breaking down gender stereotypes along the way..
